He studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire. He won the Alfred Corfield Competition in 1988 and was a semi-finalist in the Maurice Andre International Trumpet Competition in Paris.
Since graduation, he has collaborated with most of the UK’s orchestras, performing opera, ballet and orchestral repertoire. Since 1996, he has been the principal trumpeter at the Royal Shakespeare Company. He is also a member of the Cambrian Brass Quintet and Brass Explosion (a band made up of musicians from the brass section of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra). He also performed with the Brass Ensemble in Fine Arts.
He has lectured at masterclasses around the world for musicians of all ages. He taught trumpet with the National Youth Orchestra and gave several masterclasses at Wells Cathedral School. He is a trumpet teacher at the Birmingham Conservatoire as well as at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Over the last few years, he regularly traveled to Poland as a soloist and tutor, and conducted workshops with the brass section of the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra. Since 2020, we are happy to host him at CORNO in Zielona Góra.
