HOLLYWOOD BRASS | The greatest film music hits

Zielona Góra Philharmonic | Main Hall

An extraordinary journey in which music becomes our guide through the world of cinematic classics. During the concert, audiences will hear some of the most iconic film themes of all time – from Hans Zimmer’s epic Gladiator, through motifs from Howard Shore’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, to the magical world of John Williams’s Harry Potter. This cinematic odyssey will culminate in beloved melodies from Rocky, Jurassic Park, Superman, and The Simpsons.

The concert programme also reflects important anniversaries in world cinema: the 25th anniversaries of The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter film series, the 50th anniversary of Rocky, and the 80th birthday of Howard Shore – one of the greatest composers of film music.

This is not only a concert, but also a special culmination of the festival workshops. On stage, CORNO artists and faculty will join participants of the instrumental masterclasses, who will spend the entire week working together on the repertoire. The concert will be led by James Thatcher – the legendary French horn player of the Hollywood Studio Orchestra, whose playing can be heard in hundreds of productions from the American dream factory. BRASS VIRTUOSO

Holy Savior Church

French horn, trumpet, trombone and tuba – instruments that most often captivate audiences in the orchestra with the power of their sound – will this time take centre stage as soloists. The symphonic evening of the CORNO Festival is a rare opportunity to hear works written especially for brass instruments and to embark on a journey through several centuries of music history – from the Baroque flourishes of Giuseppe Tartini and Johann Melchior Molter, through the classical symmetry of Johann Georg Albrechtsberger’s compositions, to the contemporary sound worlds of Thomas Stevens, Jacob Gordon and Øystein Baadsvik. Each work reveals a different facet of the solo instrument: the virtuosity of the trumpet, the nobility of the French horn, the expressiveness of the trombone, and the surprising lightness and versatility of the tuba.

On stage will appear artists from the very top ranks of the world’s brass players. They will be joined by the Zielona Gora Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Christian Lindberg – one of the most outstanding trombonists of our time, an acclaimed conductor, composer, and ambassador of brass music on the world’s concert stages.

Programme:
Johann Georg Albrechtsberger – Concerto for Trombone and String Orchestra
Giuseppe Tartini – Concerto for Trumpet and String Orchestra
Thomas Stevens – Variations in Olden Style Tuba and String Orchestra
Øystein Baadsvik – Fnugg Red for Trombone, Tuba and String Orchestra
Johann Melchior Molter – Trumpet Concerto No. 1 in D major
Jacob Gordon – Concerto for Horn and String Orchestra
